International Association of Marriage and Family Counselors (IAMFC), a division of the American Counseling Association

Bret Hendricks, EdD, LPC-Supervisor, ASOTP
I have served on the ACA Governing Council since 2015 as the IAMFC Governing Council Representative and I want to continue in this role. Throughout my service to IAMFC on the ACA Governing Council, I have promoted IAMFC and its values. I have made great strides in Governing Council toward license portability, counselor parity, greater legislative advocacy for veterans and their families, advocacy for the LGBT community, Medicare funding for counseling, support for immigrant families, and many more initiatives. I was elected by my peers in Governing Council in 2017 to serve on the Executive Committee of the Governing Council 2017-2018. In this position, I am working especially closely with ACA officers and staff.

Historically my service and commitment to IAMFC are deep and effective. Since 1999, I have served in a variety of roles, including Treasurer, President-Elect, President, Past-President, Committee Co-Chair of IAMFC Bylaws and Ethics. Throughout my service, I worked diligently for IAMFC to increase its emphasis on advocacy, leadership, and diversity. Furthermore, as a Past-President of the Texas Counseling Association, I have unique experience as an ACA Branch leader.

Under my leadership as IAMFC President, IAMFC increased its international presence. I continue to support these outstanding endeavors. Additionally, I served on the ACA 20/20 Committee as the IAMFC Representative, working closely with ACA regarding strategic planning for increased counselor recognition and professional identity.

I am also proud to serve as the IAMFC Ethics and Bylaws Committee Co-Chair. During 2017 this committee completed a comprehensive revision of the IAMFC Code of Ethics, now available to download at iamfconline.org. This ethics code is endorsed by the American Counseling Association.

In closing, I ask to be re- elected to continue my position as your Governing Council Representative to continue the work of building greater transparency of ACA to its members and divisions and branches and increasing substantive advocacy for counselor parity, license portability, and advocating for family counseling at its best.

International Association of Marriage and Family Counselors (IAMFC), a division of the American Counseling Association

Paul R. Peluso, Ph.D., LMHC, LMFT
I have been a proud member of IAMFC since 1996. I started by serving on the Editorial Board of The Family Journal in 1998 (I think) and then served as Membership Chair. I was elected Board-Member-At-Large and served for two years in that position. I was then elected President-Elect in 2014, and served as President from 2014-2016. I am currently Past-President and sit on the Board. During my term as President, I began several initiatives to increase the visibility of IAMFC and increase the membership of IAMFC. This culminated in the successful re-establishment of the IAMFC annual conference in New Orleans in 2016. We entered into cooperative agreements with other divisions (IAAOC, CSJ, and later MEGC) to work with IAMFC. This broadened our efforts to inform individuals about IAMFC's mission, and to get them involved with the organization. I am pleased to say that these efforts have continued (and indeed grown) after my term as President ended. Also, during my term as President, I attended the IAMFC Oxford Family Counseling Institute, and met with counselors from Saudi Arabia, Singapore and Turkey (among other nations). I also led a delegation (with Dr. Brain Canfield) to Turkey and worked with national and local leaders to establish a partnership with the Turkish branch of IAMFC. This is a partnership that has provided a good model for future international development and outreach. As Governing Council representative, I would continue to pursue IAMFC's interests within the larger counseling profession. Specifically, this would advance the ideas of systemic family and couples work, its role in mental health issues, and its beneficial impact on effecting treatment. Another of IAMFC's interests that I would represent is the focus on international efforts within the counseling field that are culturally sensitive. IAMFC has been a leader in this area, and I would continue to push the Governing Council to consider initiatives that would support this. Lastly, IAMFC has always been a practitioner-oriented- division, rather than an issue-oriented or academically oriented division. This is a critical voice- that may not always be considered within the Governing Council. As a representative from IAMFC, I would seek to bring that voice into the forefront of it's deliberations.
